Great dental care starts with routine cleanings, x-rays and exams. We like to say it is easier to take care of your teeth 6 months at a time as opposed to 6 years at a time. Routine cleanings help prevent future problems by using methods you may not have available to you at home. Our hygienist can also point out areas that may need more attention in your daily routine as well as help educate proper methods in cleaning your teeth everyday.
Gone are the days of old silver fillings that are more than just an eyesore. With modern dentistry we offer white, tooth colored fillings called composite. Composite fillings provide several key benefits when compared to silver amalgam filings.
In dentistry a crown is needed when tooth decay has become too large and will no longer hold a filling in place.
The traditional method for crown is
With single day crowns there is no longer a need to take an impression or use a temporary. The tooth is digitally scanned with a 3D scanner. Dr. Jayme then designs the crown using CAD\CAM technology. Once this is completed the crown is milled in the office while your wait!
If you are missing a tooth a bridge is a good way to replace it. With a bridge, a crown is placed on the tooth in front and behind the missing tooth, these are called abutments. The bridge spans across the missing space and this section is called a pontic. A bridge is a solid piece of material including the abutments and pontic. They are made and placed very similarly to crowns.
No one wants to have a root canal, but sometimes it happens where decay reaches the pulp of the tooth. When this does happen the nerve become very sensitive and causes a lot of pain. If it becomes infected this can lead to an abscess. Treatment to remedy the situation and get rid of the pain is to clean out the root canal and remove the nerve. The canal is irrigated, cleaned and sealed.
Here at Cahaba Dental Arts we can complete the root canal and crown in a single visit. Traditionally you are referred to an endodontist, then come back for the crown prep and then again for the permanent crown. We can complete this all in a single visit saving you time!

A denture, also know as a “plate” is used to replace all the teeth in the upper or lower arch. Dentures help to restore the natural contours of the face that are lost when you lose teeth and bone support. This prevents the appearance of caved-in areas around the lips and above the chin. Implants are commonly recommended to aid in retention of dentures, especially in the lower arch, as less bone is available to retain the dentures.
Impressions are taken at the first appointment. The dental lab returns the denture initially set-up in wax to allow for any alterations that need to be made for speech, bite and esthetics. Once you are satisfied with the appearance and function of the dentures, it, it is sent back to the laboratory for final completion in acrylic. The result is an amazing smile.

Many adults wish they could correct crooked, spaced or crowded teeth and may have not had the opportunity as a child to have braces. In most every case adults would rather not wear metal braces for 2-3 years, but are embarrassed when they smile and want a solution.
Invisible Aligners are removable orthodontic appliances that are clear and virtually invisible. We begin by taking an impression of your teeth. They are then 3D modelled and a series of trays are made for you. Each of the trays is progressively straighter. They do need to be worn as much as possible but can be taken out as needed (primarily for eating and cleaning your teeth).
